Artist Bio: Phoebe Lysbeth Kay Mackenzie
I am an interdisciplinary artist and independent film-maker based in Ōtepoti Dunedin. I have a Fine Arts background graduating from The Dunedin School of Art with a BVA in Electronic Arts in 2012. Prior to Art school, I completed a Diploma in Film and Television from Aoraki polytechnic.
Since tertiary, I have been involved with, and exhibited in, a variety of projects (mainly film, photography and performance based), often collaborating with other local artists. I love to work collaboratively as incorporating my own personal approach with other artists excites me.
Dismantling stereotypes and disrupting the familiar so we see things afresh has always been a driving force in the underlining narratives within my practice. In my art practice I’m always consciously trying to captivate the attention of my viewer; whether it be to confront, intellectually stimulate, or just to let them indulge in the sheer pleasure of beautiful aesthetics.
